Riconoscere uno schema Ponzi: Le caratteristiche più comuni di una truffa finanziaria.
É uno schema Ponzi!!
Spesso mi trovo ad utilizzare questa affermazione in risposta alle numerose richieste di valutazione di nuovi modelli di business operanti sul mercato.
Ma di cosa parliamo nello specifico? Scopriamolo insieme.
UN PO DI STORIA
Carlo Ponzi, l’ideatore dello schema truffaldino che porta il suo nome, nacque nel 1882 ed è universalmente considerato uno dei più grandi truffatori della storia americana.
Divenne famigerato per avere applicato una truffa su larga scala nei confronti delle comunità di immigrati prima e poi in tutta la nazione, tentando di servirsi a suo vantaggio della differenza di valore, tra un Paese e l’altro, dei buoni postali di risposta internazionale.
Ponzi non fu il primo a usare questa tecnica, ma ebbe tanto successo da legarvi il suo nome.
Con la sua truffa coinvolse infatti 40 000 persone e, partendo dalla modica cifra di due dollari, arrivò a raccoglierne oltre 15 milioni.
COME FUNZIONA LO SCHEMA PONZI
Lo schema Ponzi è un modello economico di vendita truffaldino che promette forti guadagni ai primi “investitori”, a discapito dei successivi, a loro volta vittime della truffa.
Lo schema può essere descritto in diversi step, scopriamoli insieme.
- Promettere guadagni elevati. La prima fase dello schema Ponzi riguarda l’avvicinamento della vittima. A questa viene proposto un investimento dai grandi guadagni con rendimenti più alti rispetto ai tassi di mercato. Il tutto nel più breve tempo possibile.
- Ottenere la fiducia. Il secondo step riguarda la fiducia della vittima. Il truffatore restituirà ad essa parte della somma inizialmente investita, ma solo per dare parvenza di efficacia del sistema. Il cliente, o meglio, la vittima crederà che il sistema stia funzionando e da qui sarà più semplice per il truffatore continuare con gli step successivi. Esempio: restituisco quanto pattuito, anche attingendo ai fondi dei nuovi investitori, così facendo mi guadagno la fiducia della vittima che vedendosi ripagata inizierà a fidarsi di me e a fornirmi nuovo denaro.
- Estendere la rete di vittime. Passo successivo dello schema Ponzi sarà l’estensione della rete di potenziali clienti/vittime. Più l’efficacia dell’investimento sarà nota più altre vittime cadranno nella truffa dello schema Ponzi.
La spirale truffaldina dello schema Ponzi avrà termine solo quando le richieste di rimborso saranno così elevate da superare gli introiti derivanti dalla truffa di altre vittime.
Come si può immaginare, il meccanismo funziona bene all’inizio e finché ci sarà un flusso continuo e numeroso di investitori, ma prima o poi dovrà interrompersi a scapito della folla degli ultimi, i quali, si troveranno a perdere l’intero capitale.
Ricordiamoci sempre che:
– Non esistono guadagni facili;
– In finanza, il profitto è strettamente correlato al grado di rischio;
– Esiste sempre una chiave di lettura, diversa, a tutto!
